Two Moors Festival of Music 13-22nd October

This year’s Two Moors Festival sees a total of thirty music concerts taking place in October.

Devotees of the Two Moors Festival will know that classical concerts take place in moorland churches, some large and one so small that it seats only thirty six people. Most of the concerts involve chamber music performed by distinguished and well-known artists as well as up-and-coming young musicians. Amongst the myriad artists who have taken part in the past are Dame Emma Kirkby, Mark Padmore, Paul Lewis, BBC Young Musician of the Year winners to name but a few.

The Fair comes to Barnstaple

It’s Fair time again, a tradition that goes back many hundreds of years. Originally the fair was a ‘hiring’ fair and a livestock show spread over 4 days.  On a Wednesday the appearance of a white kid glove on a pole emerging from a window of the guild hall signifies that the Fair is officially open. Then there is a official lunch at The Barnstaple Hotel before the mayor and guests go to the funfair to officially open it. On Saturday the carnival starts early evening and the fair ends Saturday night.
Why not visit Barnstaple in September and you can witness this ancient tradition, which now has a very modern twist,

Brend Hotels promotes local food at The Devon County Show

Brend Hotels was again one of the major sponsors of this year’s Devon County Show, which attracted more than 92,000 visitors over the three days.

For the second year running, Brend Hotels provided the Stewards Supper, with a menu featuring Devon beef, mushroom and ale pie; English egg custard and quince honey tart and local cheeses.

The menu was created by Brend Hotels award-winning Group Development Chef, Dez Turland, who was also in charge of the cookery demonstrations in the Food Tent.

Dez was joined on the stage by Danny Downs from The Saunton Sands Hotel in north Devon.  Danny prepared a modern version of the classic dish, Sole Veronique, which formed part of the winning menu from The Brend Chef of the Year competition.

Also appearing again was budding young chef, Toby Mosedale.  Sixteen-year-old Toby, from Chulmleigh, has won a prestigious scholarship under chef Michel Roux junior, at the three Michelin-starred Le Gavroche restaurant in London.
